Being the village
Happy Friday, everyone.
Our sacred mission at Higher Ground is to help children realize their immense potential as human beings. As an important aspect of that mission, we want to support parents in nurturing their child’s independence. We want to be the village that helps parents raise their children.
This shows up in big and small ways every day at our campuses—from our extended hours and year-round schedule, to the special info sessions we host on topics like toilet learning and positive discipline, to connecting with parents at drop-off, even if just a smile of acknowledgement, and providing photo updates of children to their parents throughout the day.
Recently, we’ve launched a new initiative as part of this mission: a newsletter called The Parenting Guide. The goal of the newsletter is to discuss tricky parenting topics and provide Montessori-inspired insights to help parents navigate them with confidence.
Topics so far have ranged from the question of whether to make kids share, resisting the urge to step in and help with tasks like tying shoes, and, most recently, how the way we teach history can embed optimism or pessimism about the future.
If you haven’t read the newsletter yet, I encourage you to take a moment to check it out and, especially, to share your feedback to help us improve.
Even more important, if you have friends who are interested in your work as a Montessori educator or business leader, if you meet with a new parent who is eager to start applying Montessori at home, or have a new colleague who’s diving headfirst into our world of high-agency education and parenting, I’d love if you shared the newsletter with them too and invite them to subscribe.
Happy Friday and have a great weekend,
Ray Girn
