Super interesting. Are you at all concerned that she’ll struggle to get into writing by hand having experienced the ease of typing first? Writing by hand leads to a different kind of thinking from typing.
Not worried, she also gets plenty of practice writing by hand. In some ways more natural for children to write by hand, because it slows them down to their pace of literacy. But typing is useful in the same way the moveable alphabet is useful, in that it allows for practice with construction of words in isolation from the physical skill of writing. (In any case, it’s been 2 years and she writes a ton by hand!)
Anybody have recommendations for a messaging app that works on a laptop? I went through the whole setup process for Messenger Kids only to realize that it's phone-and-tablet-app only! And I think their laptop is too old to run it smoothly in an emulator.

This is gold! I’m going to look into setting up messaging on the kid laptop. Maybe they can chat with their cousins!

We just use iMessage and effectively whitelist the contacts (with manual supervision).
